Visiting: Ephesus, House of Virgin Mary, Temple of Artemis, Isabey Mosque

Duration: 12 hours

You will find your guide waiting for you with a name placard as you walk out of Marmaris Harbour, ready to take you on an incredible day visiting some of Selcuk's most famous sights.

Ephesus
Our first destination is the Ancient City of Ephesus, dating back around 3,000 years and once one of the largest cities under Roman rule. Today its ruins have been well preserved and are excellent examples of the architecture and design of the period. Wander through the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the famed Celsius Library with its beautifully adorned facade.

House of the Virgin Mary
A short drive from Ephesus up a hillside lies the House of the Virgin Mary - a small cottage where the mother of Christ is believed to have been brought by John the Baptist to live out her final years. It is now an important pilgrimage site and offers impressive panoramic views across the surrounding area.

Temple of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis is deservedly listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World with its ornate marble foundations scattered across swampland evidence of its former glory. It was built in the 6th century BC and some of its artifacts have today been relocated to London's British Museum.

Isabey Mosque
Located just below St John Basilica stands one of the most beautiful examples of Seljukian style mosque left standing in the world today. The Isabey Mosque was built in 1374 by the most famous builder of the time, Ali – the son of Mushimish al-Damishki, and its impressive marble carvings and mosaics still emanate a sense of tranquility.

NOTE!
While a visit to the Terrace Houses section of the Ancient City of Ephesus is not included in the tour cost (extra entrance fee of 15 USD per person) it is highly recommended and we will allow plenty of time. Its oldest building, "The houses of the rich Romans", dates back to the 1st century BC and offers a unique insight into the lifestyle of these wealthy ancient people, with beautiful tile work and mosaics adorning the walls. Please be aware that in this section there are over 100 stairs so we do not recommend it for people with physical disabilities.

Lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. We will suggest options for local Turkish restaurants and provide ample time for you to have a sit-down lunch.
